Weekly Give outs - Food and other items

Shining Light is blessed to be able to have weekly food give aways throughout the week when it is available. Some of you may be unaware of who qualifies for this.

When we recieve donations from the food bank and/or private businesses and are able to give it out through the week, anyone is eligible to recieve it. You DO NOT have to recieve assistance, be income eligible, or even live within the Charleston school district to get it.

The only drawback to the weekly giveaways is the limited amounts we recieve. It is first come/first serve so sometimes the items don't last very long. Also, we don't get a lot of notice ahead of time. Sometimes we do not know about the availability until the day we receive it.

So if you see a notice online, on Facebook, or here on the Shining Light page, please feel free to come out and get your free items with no worries about any information you have to provide.

We will have our monthly food pantry Saturday, March 17th from 1 - 4 pm. Volunteers are always needed and much appreciated! If you would like to help bag the food, please be here at 9:00 am. Bagging usually takes 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Or if you would like to volunteer and help give the food out, or pull wagons, please be here around 12:45 pm and that group will work til 4 pm. You are welome to volunteer during both events or one or the other. We are blessed to have volunteers at any time. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at 5736832555.

Guidelines for Eligibility - Food Pantry

A lot of people are unaware if they are eligible for the food we give away at our monthly food pantry. I hope this helps, but if you still have questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at 5736832555 and we will gladly help resolve any questions you may have.

To be eligible for our monthly food pantry distribution, you MUST live within the Charleston school district or in Diehlstadt (this town has been grandfathered in due to the close proximity to the distribution site). Charleston School District towns include: Charleston, Wyatt, Wilson City, Anniston, Bertrand. If you live in the Charleston school district but have an East Prairie address (outside Anniston) as long as you bring in proof that you are in the Charleston school district, you may pick up food here.

If you recieve assistance such as: SSI, Food Stamps, or Medicaid, you automatically qualify to recieve the food. If you do not recieve any of these, it does not automatically disqualify you from recieving the food. You may still qualify through your income. If you would like to know if you qualify by income and household size alone, please call me at 573-683-2555 or come into the office and you are welcome to recieve a copy of the income guidelines to determine if you qualify.
